Kerry Gibson-Yates is raising £500 for The CLD Trust
About
It has been 6 years since I did a ‘century’ ride (over 100 miles) and time is moving on for this 56-year old. So, let’s get to it! With this in mind, I signed up to do the Wye Valley Warrior ‘epic’ cycle ride taking place on 19th August - a 102 miler through some of the glorious countryside of the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley. In doing this, I’ve challenged myself to get much fitter and to lose 2 stone - both in a timeframe of 10 weeks. The training will involve a a build up of distance and hill cycling, a significant amount of strength work (to improve my core) and a variety of other cardio exercise. From past experience, I know too the importance of diet and nutrition particularly when on the long rides in what might be extreme heat. I’m starting from being 14.5 stone with a reasonable level of fitness. The exercise has always helped me to stay focused and to maintain a positive mental health. With mental health and well-being, being a primary concern for all in our society, I feel it’s important to acknowledge and recognise the work of charities, supporting individuals struggling with issues which affect their daily lives. With this in mind it was important for me, that putting all the effort and hard work in, I should do it for a worthy cause, highlighting the benefits of exercise on our mental health and well-being. I know from my partner’s involvement with the CLD Trust and the fabulous work they do for children and young people, the difference the support provides to their lives, is worthy of this challenge and the funds it will hopefully raise.
