How we get the personal information and why we have it

Most of the personal information we process is provided to us directly by you for the following reasons:

  • Personal identifiers are necessary to recognise you as a registered user, pass on the correct details to the charity with your donation and ensure that you are satisfied with the service you receive. You can choose to donate anonymously without registering with Givey.com, in this circumstance your information won't be passed on to the charity.
  • By keeping a record of your donation, the charity and Givey.com can help to deal more quickly with any queries or problems encountered and to ensure that any information that we send to you is relevant.
  • We keep a record of any e-mail correspondence you send us so that we can track any problems or concerns you may have with our website.
  • The donations you make via Givey.com create content for the site - ‘donation strings’ - and these appear in several places (your profile, charity profile, profiles of other users involved in the donation). This content will remain on the site unless you request that it be removed, however please note that some information must be retained in order for us to fulfil our service to charities, for example address details and details of your donation pertaining to Gift Aid

We use the information that you have given us in order to operate and improve the service we offer you and to personalise our service. During your registration process you are given the opportunity to select some of the ways in which we may use your details. This can be amended at any time by managing your settings in your account or contacting us.

We may use the information you have provided to:

  • Pass on your details to the charity you have donated to so they may respond to your donation and continue in a conversation with you if they choose to.
  • To provide you with the main services on our site, for administration and accounting and to ensure that the content and services that we offer are tailored to your needs and interests.
  • If you have given us permission to do so, we may occasionally let you know about offers from charities and services who we believe may interest you, either by sending out the information ourselves to you directly, or by providing certain details to other companies so they may contact you directly.
  • To verify details of your payment method or credit card account.

We may share this information with the following:

  • Our payment provider, Stripe, in order to provide the payments service to facilitate donations
  • Charities who may apply to HMRC for Gift Aid.
  • If requested by the police or a regulatory or government authority investigating illegal activities to provide information concerning your activities whilst using the network.

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the lawful bases we rely on for processing this information is your consent.
