Jackie Blacklock is raising £1,000 for Give Us A Break 2010
About
In 2013, almost 2,000 children in Cumbria were classed as having Special Educational Needs, most with learning disabilities. Less than 8% were able to have access to overnight short break facilities. Give Us A Break 2010 is raising funds to build and operate a Short Break Centre in West Cumbria for these children. West Cumbria needs this type of centre to give the children, their families and their carers a much needed rest. The centre will have overnight stay facilities and organise fun, educational activities for the children who are often house bound outside of school hours. With plenty of space for the children to explore and discover the outdoors, the Centre will be unique in the area. As a director of the charity I wondered what I could do to help raise funds for this much needed resource. As I hit the big 50 this year I decided to do something I have wanted to do since I was in primary school, but was always too scared to do (I'm not too comfortable with heights). This year, on August 9th, one day after turning 50, I will be doing a tandem skydive in aid of GUAB2010. Getting to the stage of being able to undertake the dive has not been easy. I'm overweight, and I've had to loose almost 5 stone just to be able to book the jump. My weight is still dropping, and I will be dropping out of an aircraft and free-falling from an altitude of over 10,000 ft. With twin Grandsons who have learning disabilities, I know how much this Centre needs to be built, and how much it needs to be in West Cumbria. This is my leap of faith for the Charity I believe in so much. Please join me in that leap in faith by sponsoring me for the skydive using the links attached. Don't forget the Gift Aid! Alternatively, why not help GUAB2010 raise even more money and join me on the sponsored skydive. You can do this either directly with Skydive NorthWest at www.skydivenorthwest.co.uk or by contacting me at jackie@giveusabreak2010.org. Please take a look at our website (www.giveusabreak2010.org) and see what we are about and how you can help. Follow us on Twitter @GUAB2010 Thank you for reading this and thank you for donating.
