Samantha Journet is raising £1,000 for Macari Foundation
About
Together with my niece Fran, I am embarking on a 200-mile walk to raise funds for the Macari Foundation, which provides accommodation and support for homeless people across Stoke-on-Trent. I will leave from the Macari Centre in Stoke on August 31, and will hike the Camino de Santiago, a traditional pilgrimage route from Porto in Portugal to Santiago in Spain, over 14 days. Why am I doing this? After retiring, I had more time on my hands and started to visit Hanley more, and was absolutely flabbergasted by the number of homeless people I saw there there. I started to read up on the causes of homelessness and realised it is not as simple as just getting a job – there are lots of other issues involved. I saw a video about the Macari Foundation and I think they are doing fabulous work for the homeless in Stoke-on-Trent – so I decided I wanted to raise money for them. I also do voluntary work in the city and Lou Macari, the charity's founder, helped me to find accommodation for a gentleman I was working with, who had been made homeless. I was impressed by the fact that after I contacted Lou asking for help, he got back to me very quickly with a solution. About Givey.com Thank you for visiting our Givey page.
