Help me raise £2000 to volunteer in Nepal (ProjectsAbroad)
Story
Starting in June 2016 I will be joining Projects Abroad to spend 4 weeks volunteering in a Nepalese hospital near Kathmandu in Nepal. I will be accompanying doctors and nurses on ward rounds, observing how they work and also sitting in on doctor-patient consultations. I hope to learn a great deal about how the local health system works and gain a greater understanding of global health practices, in a country I have always dreamed of visiting. I’m choosing to volunteer through an organisation called Projects Abroad. Projects Abroad was established in 1992 as a volunteer English-teaching programme in Eastern Europe and has since grown to offer a wide range of opportunities in volunteering, internships, and language courses in over 25 destinations around the globe. I will be joining a community of well over 50,000 volunteers past and present that have lent their time and effort to giving back around the world. While I am volunteering I will be living with a local host family. I believe that the long-term relationships that I hope to make with my project colleagues and host-family will be of great value to me as well as them. At the end of my project I hope to return with a better understanding of Nepal and the people that I have interacted with there, aswell as reflecting on any similarities and contrasts between the health systems of Nepal and the UK As this experience is unpaid, I will need to cover costs for things like flights, the Projects Abroad programme fee and vaccinations. I plan to contribute a significant portion of my own funds to this, as well as funding through sponsorships and fundraising events. . Even a small amount like £5 will get me one step closer to my goal. Projects abroad also look for English children book donations, which will be given to local schools, hospitals and homes, so please contact me if you any spare! Thank you in advance for any support you can give!
