The Dalai Lama Centre for Compassion (DLCC) is a nonpartisan and entirely secular initiative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. With a mission to advance society’s and individuals’ understanding of compassion and related values, the DLCC is an ethics research and education centre which has been working with some of the UK’s foremost thinkers since 2014.
Since 2017, the DLCC has concentrated on education in schools via its project Compassion Matters. Compassion Matters aims to create a kinder and happier society by inspiring children to lead compassionate lives.
We achieve this by sharing our compassion and ethics curriculum with schools and education charities. Our learning resources equip children to gain a foundational understanding and to think critically about ethical issues. We also support children to practice compassion, reflection and self-compassion. Through deepening their knowledge of what it means to be human, the skills to navigate the challenges of life, children can support their resilience and long term wellbeing.
We help children to understand that compassion and related concepts, such as courage, justice and happiness, are the key not only to a happier, more harmonious society but also to individual wellbeing.
