Lucy McGregor is raising £40,000 for Latin American Foundation For The Future (LAFF)
About
This page is dedicated to Hannah Barrett, a dearly loved daughter, sister, grandchild, partner, friend, and LAFF Trustee who sadly passed away on Friday 30th July 2010, having lost her battle with cancer. Hannah's natural goodness, selflessness, generous disposition, smiles and giving nature continue to inspire many of her friends and to infuse the work of LAFF. We hope that others continue her work as a lasting testimony to her life and beliefs. 2020 marked the 10 year anniversary of Hannah's passing. In July, LAFF announced the Hannah Barrett Legacy Scholarship Fund. This is a new initiative in memory of Hannah, which will continue her legacy in Cuzco. The Scholarship will support young women in Casa Mantay to complete their education, something that they would not be able to do without the support of a scholarship. This way, they can gain the skills and knowledge to build a strong foundation for a brighter future for themselves and their family. Casa Mantay is an amazing refuge for young women who have survived abuse and rejection in their own homes. Mantay supports the young women and their babies to get the education they need and deserve to thrive, and gives them a safe place to grow up and learn to be mothers. LAFF has worked with Casa Mantay for over 10 years. It's a very special place that would not exist without your support. About Hannah, Peru and her work with LAFF... Hannah has been a fundamental, dedicated and committed member of LAFF since its very creation, first supporting on the ground during her time working in Peru, and then becoming a LAFF Trustee on her return to the UK to continue this support of a cause she truly believed in. Hannah's love for Peru and its people started in 2005 when she first worked there leading groups of volunteers working on community development projects. When she finished university, Hannah immediately returned to work in the field, first as a volunteer leader, then as South America Regional Manager for the same organisation, Madventurer. For the last five years, Hannah has worked tirelessly both in the field and as part of LAFF to help those less fortunate in Peru. Her last trip was in September 2009 when Hannah with other Trustees took time to visit LAFFs projects and deliver funds. When the sad news reached Peru, we were not surprised but all the same very moved that across the globe, dozens of friends were lighting candles and holding ceremonies in Hannah's memory. It is clear that Hannah with her radiant, generous spirit has touched many people far and wide in this world, and here at LAFF we feel very lucky to have had her as part of our team, and as a friend. Hannah too, can be proud of all she has accomplished, all she has given, and how far a fledgling charity has come with her valuable input. We are honoured to be able to continue to help the people of Latin America she so loved and hope you will help us to do so. Rest in peace, Hannah. Thank you for all that you have done and the inspiration you continue to be...
