Food Behind Bars is raising £2,000 for Food Behind Bars
About
Food Behind Bars is the UK's leading charity dedicated to the subject of prison food. We work with prisons on a variety of food-based projects, each designed to to improve the lives of those eating it and support the people making it. Good food has the power to transform people’s lives - nowhere is this more important than in prisons. Food Behind Bars' aim is to positively impact the health and wellbeing of prisoners, by delivering practical food-based education, promoting healthy eating and designing exciting food and drink initiatives. This year has been our first full year of operation as a Registered Charity. Despite the ongoing pandemic, we have delivered meaningful food projects in prisons right across the country. We are transforming a greenhouse in a men's prison into a working Kitchen Garden, growing fresh food and teaching a group of prisoners about the food system as a whole. We're training and inspiring prisoners right across the country, equipping them with a variety of culinary skills - this year's workshops have covered everything from dim sum to Caribbean cookery, Japanese favourites to mastering the basics. Our guest chef sessions and cooking competitions have given prisoners a chance to work alongside renowned professional chefs. We're working closely with catering managers on wholesome dishes that support the health and wellbeing of the whole prison population. Our prison bakery, Rise & Prove, is about to kick off production with a baking training course and a set of mini Christmas hampers - baked by our trainee bakers and delivered to 850 prisoners in December. Each and every one of our projects are united by our philosophy of wholesome food for everyone in society. We've been overwhelmed with support from our Food Behind Bars community this year - we are a small charity and the support we get from our network is what keeps us going. This Christmas, we're asking you to make a donation - however big or small - which will go directly towards our work in prisons. Whether you'd like to give a meaningful Christmas gift to a loved one by making a donation on their behalf, or simply pledging your support as the year wraps up. Whatever it is, we are so grateful for your support. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from Food Behind Bars! Thank you.
